I won’t write mother another praise poem

I won’t write a woman a thing
To ink a clean dry sheet
Post her on social media, she won’t see
Or hide her name in a book, she won’t read.
I won’t write mother another praise poem

Like yesterday, I will dig
Ensure she has food, even when covid renders me jobless
I will repaint the house I built for her 2 years ago.
As we reminisce about the time in the Kibuye slums.
Or how she still carried me on her back
and breast feed me even when I was two.
I won’t write mother another praise poem.

I will try to let her find joy in her lone boy
Love her like Mzei Kasirivu loved his mother
So today, I won’t join you all to post
And celebrate in ways not significant
I won’t write mother another praise poem.

I enjoyed every piece of it. How intelligent and delightful your writings are! Every single article belongs here.

Those illustrations complete the charming atmosphere of your works. Smart decision on including them here and there.
